I love the British high street and the affordable makeup options we have, even more so when they are committed to being cruelty free, but there’s one thing our budget makeup can improve on and that’s diversity. I’ve spoken about this a few times in the past, but the aisles of our shops don’t always reflect the beautiful people shopping in them – often people with darker (and lighter!) skin tones have to shop at higher end counters to find the shade that fits them, paying more in the process.
Whilst in the past this has been a simple case of supply and demand (there’s only so much display space after all) this is 2016, we are a diverse nation and there is a huge market to be tapped into, people want to walk into a shop and have more choice than just the Sleek stand. With that in mind, I was so happy this morning to see that my favourite affordable contour kit from Barry M now comes in a deeper shade. The original release has been much loved in my collection and I’ve used it several times on my channel. Whilst it was perfect for my colouring it’s great to see the new offering for medium to dark skin tones, and from a cruelty free, affordable company no less.
The texture is the same as the original release, with a lighter shade, a bronzing powder and a deeper contour, so it’s a great option for people dipping their toe into the contouring world or those of us who don’t want to spend a fortune chiselling our cheekbones. Obviously I can’t put the shades to the test on myself but what do you guys think? If you have a deeper skin tone do these look like shades that would be useful to you? At £6.49 this won’t break the bank so I’d love to hear your thoughts, let me know in the comments!
